February is a month of contrast - cold air and hot fire, long nights and lengthening days, the silence of winter and the burble of spring. Across cultures, this in‑between time has always been considered sacred - a moment of transformation, hope and readying for both the earth and our selves.

Below are three ancient celebrations that honour the turning of the wheel, along with three blessings you can use to open the door to welcome love, renewal, and creativity into your life. Take a moment and ask for what you want. These tiny pauses where the world is turning are reminders that we get to choose what's next.

Imbolc — Celtic Festival of Returning Light

Imbolc marks the midpoint between winter solstice and spring equinox. It’s a festival of purification, hearth‑fire, and creative rebirth. It is said that the day was in honour of the goddess of poetry, smithcraft, and healing - Birgid, but .

The spirit of Imbolic is the feeling of:

  • Inspiration
  • New beginnings
  • Fire magic
  • Creative renewal

Looking for a modern act to bring more Imbolic spirit into your life? Ask for a blessing by lighting a candle for Brigid. Invite inspiration by cleaning a corner of your home. Embody the feeling of creativity and begin a new creative project.

Lupercalia — Ancient Roman Festival of Wild Love

Held in mid‑February, Lupercalia predates Valentine’s Day by centuries. The celebration honoured fertility, protection, and the raw, untamed side of love. It was messy, ecstatic, and deeply communal.

The spirit of Lupercaiia:

  • Embodied love
  • Passion
  • Protection
  • Fertility

Modern Lupercalia practice: Write a love letter — to yourself, a partner, or someone you admire. Celebrate the body you live in.

Dísablót — Norse Rite for the Ancestral Women

Dísablót honoured the dísir, powerful female spirits and ancestors who watched over families and communities. It was a winter‑end ritual asking for protection, guidance, and strength.

The spirit of Disablot:

  • Ancestral feminine wisdom
  • Courage
  • Protection
  • Creative bravery

Blessings

Call on the spirit to shine on your life. Try lighting a candle for a woman who shaped you — living or gone — and ask for her guidance.

Words have power. They can express thoughts and emotions, and create thoughts and feelings in others and ourselves. When we read wonderful things or say wonderful things, we feel wonderful. When we read about or talk about crappy thing, we feel crappy. Knowing this makes us powerful. If we can bring in thoughts and feelings with words, why wouldn't we try speaking about the things we want to think and feel more about? Here are some ways to try.

  1. Read the blessings below. Choose one 'topic' that speaks to you.
  2. Think of 1 way you want to view, know or witness the realization of your request. (i.e. I will create one new thing by March 31st, or I will see new growth)
  3. Decide how you want to feel when you receive your blessing. Practice feeling that feeling now so you will recognize it when it happens.
  4. Invoke the blessing:
    • Write the blessing 3 times - where possible, choose a writing instrument and process that feel powerful to you - be they pen and paper, or keyboard and screen.
    • Read the blessing out 3 times, focusing on the feeling
    • Release the blessing - by burning, deleting, saving into archive folder, or burying in the earth - depending on which one calls to you, and which best aligns with your needs. Safety first. However you release it, know it is coming, know it is already here, know you will notice evidence of your blessing sooner than you think - be watchful and notice as they come.
  5. Note: If the blessings below don't speak to you, write or adjust the words so they work for you. It is in your energy and focus that you make things happen. Other people's words matter less than how the words feel to you.

Creativity Blessing

“As the light returns, so does my inspiration.

As the snow melts, so does my doubt.

As the world shifts, I feel creativity flow.”

Early Spring Blessing — “Calling the Thaw”

“I call to the earth beneath the frost.

Wake gently, rise slowly,

Bring your green breath to my door.

I welcome fresh growth into my life..”

Love Blessing — “Opening the Heart”

“May my heart be soft but resilient,

Open but protected,

Ready to give and receive love

In all the forms it arrives.”
