What inspired you to start writing?
I have always loved to read and write. When I was a little girl, I would go to the library each week and withdraw the maximum number of books I could at the age of 5, and devour them in days. Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton were my faves of mine.
When I was a teenager, I began to read Point Horror and The Babysitter Club. Creating made-up worlds and characters has always been something I’ve loved to do. There are boxes of A4-lined notebooks in my parents, full of stories I’ve written over the years which have never seen the light of day.
I took a break from writing in my twenties and then started it back up in my thirties. It took me a long time to realize that I’m only truly happy when I’m writing. Writing is part of who I am.
How has writing changed your life?
My writing is a vehicle for escapism for me personally. That’s part of why I love to read, the way the book draws you in and transports you into another world. When I write, the exact same thing happens.
Writing has also empowered me, I think. Everything I create is within my control, and when people say they love my books or my characters, it’s a truly magical thing that will never grow old.
Tell me about your upcoming book:
Out of Bounds is a contemporary romance with lots of steam.
It’s the story of Gabe White and Ella Anderson. They’re both from totally different sides of the tracks.
Gabe has enjoyed a privileged, blessed upbringing and has wealth.
Ella has come from a single-parent family and nursed her dying mother for much of her late teens and early twenties.
Experiences in Ella’s earlier life make her despise the kind of guy Gabe is, or who she thinks he is. When a weird twist of fate throws them together, Ella ultimately discovers whether she was right to judge Gabe, and he finds himself questioning the very cornerstones of his life to date.
What inspired you to write this book?
I write what I like to read. First and foremost you have to enjoy what you’re writing. I really like enemies to lovers, forced proximity and all the angst that comes from those tropes. I also personally prefer reading books with heat. There is nothing wrong with sweet romance, fade to grey, closed-door romances. From the age of 20-30, that’s all I read and I really enjoy those books, but I ended up feeling like something was missing. I’m nosey. I want ALL the deets!
Who are your biggest writing inspirations?
Jodi Ellen Malpas, Slyvia Day. They write such good books with HOT heroes but, most importantly, it’s not all about the heat. They craft stories that pull you in.
Of the books that you have written, which is your favourite and why?
I’d have to say Dark Desires because was my debut self-published novel. It proved to me that through hard work and dedication I could achieve my dreams.
The Black Series: Dark Desires, #1, Dark Heart, #2, & Dark Soul, #3
What non-writing accomplishment are you most proud of?
My daughter
How do you take your coffee?
Two sweeteners, low-fat milk BUT I adore skinny vanilla lattes.
Vampires or Werewolves?
Vampires. They love forever and they’re kind of hot.
Cat person or dog person?
Dog. I own a nine-year-old, one-eyed Shih Tzu.
Ebooks, hardcovers, audiobooks or paperbacks?
This is always difficult. Ebooks for space and convenience however I love paperbacks. They’re my fave. The smell of paper and print? Devine.
Describe your dream home in 20 words or less?
A big country house, set in the middle of acres of woodland, miles away from anything so I don’t have to ‘people’ lol!
