Day 4! Whoop whoop!
Without further ado, let's kick this creative bus into gear!
Today's Prompt:
Write a story in the form of a landline phone conversation
Regina's 15 minutes of creative writing:
Hello. Tyson residence. This is Cody speaking.
Hi Cody. My name is Marty. Is your Daddy home?
Daddy is staying with his new friend tonight,
Oh? Who is his new friend?
I’m not supposed to say. Her name is Britanny, and she has a blue flower on her tummy and wears a ring in her nose!
Oh, dear. Well, that’s something. Is your mommy home?
Yes.
Can I talk to her?
I don’t think Mommy wants me to bring her the phone right now.
Why’s that, honey?
Mommy is in bed.
Oh no, is your Mommy sick.
No, she is just doing stretching in bed.
Stretching in bed? Is Mommy hurt?
I don't think so. I heard her yelling, but when I went to check she was okay, she said her friend was helping her stretch, and that I needed to leave them alone to do stretching.
Who is Mommy’s friend?
Coach Ashburn from little league. He drives me home now. I like not having to walk past the big dogs on the corner, but I don't like how he is all red and sweaty when he finishes stretching with mommy.
Oh dear. Is Coach Ashburn there now?

Cody?
Yeah?
Why are you whispering?
I’m sneaking. You have to whisper when you sneak.
Where are you sneaking?
To Mommy’s bedroom.
What’s going on?
I hear them stretching.
Oh?
It sounds like it hurts.
Is your mommy okay?
She is praying.
Praying?
Oh God. Oh God. Oh, fucking Jesus. I didn't know you could say bad words when you were praying.
Um, Cody, I think you should leave your mommy alone for a bit.
I can hear Coach praying too. Oh God, oh fucking God Almighty. Maybe grownups need to say bad words because they have bigger questions to ask God.
Maybe, honey. Why don’t you go watch some TV?
I can’t do that.
Why not?
Grampy is watching his shows.
Can you watch with him?
No. He says they are nature shows about grownups and I’m too little to watch. I saw part of one once. I don't understand why the man took off his pants to fix the washing machine. I got in trouble for taking off my pants when my shoelace broke...
Hmmm... maybe you should go listen to music?
I can't do that.
Why not?
Granny is listening to her books.
Her books?
Yes, and she says that I'm too little to listen.
Oh dear -
I heard part of one once. There was a fairy king and a princess, but then he tied her to a tree, and I didn't understand much of what happened next. I'm not sure why a princess would want a fairy in her cavern.
Oh dear. Cody sounds like your granny is listening to some books for grown-ups. Could you maybe read yourself a story?

Great! What are you going to read?
My big brother, Toby, has a bunch of new magazines under his bed. The people in the magazines are too poor to have clothes, but sometimes the stories are interesting. I didn't know people had on and off switches. I can never find mine.
On and off switches?
Yes, the princesses in the magazines always tell their turn ons and turn offs. I don't think I would tell someone how to turn me off if I knew how. I think I would want to keep it a secret.
Good idea, but maybe there are some different books for you – some books for someone your own age.
